The material studied at the house of Al-Arqam

The material that the Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) taught his Companions at the house of Al-Arqam was the Noble Quran - the only source of true guidance. The beloved Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) was keen on unifying the source of guidance and making the Quran the only methodology and the central idea according to which the Muslim individual, family and community should be nurtured.

Jibreel (Gabriel), may Allah exalt his mention, would descend with the newly revealed Quranic verses to inform the Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) about them. Then, the Companions would hear these verses from the Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) and it used to flow into their souls, interact with their hearts and affect them. Hence, each of them would turn into a changed person with new values, feelings, objectives, attitude and aspirations. The Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) was very keen on making the Quran the only subject to be studied and the only methodology of upbringing for his Companions. He insisted on refraining from teaching them anything other than the Noble Quran.

The early Muslims received the Quran seriously and consciously. They were very keen on understanding and precisely implementing its teachings. They would seek in its verses what would direct them in all their present and future life affairs. Hence, the early Muslims were brought up on the teachings of the Noble Quran, and represented a practical image of these Divine directions. The Quran was the Divine school that graduated the rightly-guided Islamic callers and leaders who constituted the generation that has never again been witnessed throughout human history. Allah The Almighty revealed the Quran to the Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) to build a nation, establish a state, organize a society, refine and cultivate consciences, morals and minds as well as form a creed, prospective, ethics and feelings.

Thus, he taught the first Muslim generation that excelled all other generations and societies in all creed-related as well as spiritual, ethical, social political and military fields.
