His Miracles and Proofs of his Prophethood–I

As a whole, the Sharee‘ah which is stated in the Quran revolves around three interests:
The First Interest: The elimination of evil from six matters: religion, the self, the mind, lineage, honor and wealth.

The Second Interest: The realization of benefit: The Quran opens all doors to attain benefits in all fields and eliminates every means that would most likely lead to sin.

The Third Interest: Adhering to high morals and fine practices.

The Noble Quran solves the universal problems that humans are unable to solve. It does not leave an aspect that humans need regarding this worldly life or the Hereafter without stating rules for it and guiding them to it in the best and most moderate way.

The Fourth Aspect: Modern scientific miracles of the Quran
This is connected to informing about the unseen future, aspects of which have been discovered by science in the modern age. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. But is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness?}[Quran 41:53]

The promise of Allah The Almighty has been recently fulfilled when people saw the signs of Allah in the horizons and in creatures through the most delicate sophisticated devices and means, such as planes, submarines and other modern devices that the human has not possessed until the modern age. Therefore, who told Muhammad,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), about these unseen matters one thousand four hundred years ago? This clearly indicates that the Quran is the words of Allah and Muhammad,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), is truly the Messenger of Allah.

Scientific miracles are discovered on the earth and in the sky, seas, deserts, in humans, animals, plants, trees, and insects. There are innumerable examples for this and there is no space to enumerate them all.

The Second Subject: Tangible miracles of the Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention )

There were many tangible supernatural miracles of the Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) which are, again, innumerable. We will therefore briefly mention nine types of these miracles as examples:

The First Type: High Realm Miracles

1- The splitting of the moon: This was one of the key miracles of the Messenger of Allah,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), indicating that he was truthful. The Makkans asked him to show them a sign, so he pointed to the moon and it split into two parts so that they saw the mountain of Hiraa’ between them. [Al-Bukhari]
Allah The Exalted Says (what means): {The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]. And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, “Passing magic.” And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement.} [Quran 54:1-3]

2- His ascension beyond the upper heavens on the night of Israa’ and Mi‘raaj (The Prophet's night journey to Al-Aqsa mosque and the upper heavens): This was mentioned in the Noble Quran as well as the the relevant Hadeeths. Allah The Exalted Says (what means): {Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from Al-Masjid Al-Haraam to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our Signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.} [Quran 17:1]

This was indeed one of the greatest miracles of the Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ). He was taken from Makkah to Al-Aqsa mosque, through this long distance, in a very short time, and then ascended to the heavens. He reached a place where the sound of the angels' writing could be heard. He saw Paradise. The five daily prayers were prescribed there. Then he returned to Makkah before morning. The Quraysh, however, belied him and asked him for signs indicating his truthfulness. Knowing that the Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), had not seen Al-Aqsa mosque before, the Quraysh asked him to describe it. Allah The Exalted showed it to him and he began telling them about its signs and answered their questions. [Al-Bukhari]

This is in addition to many other high realm miracles such as the guarding of the heavens by burning flames at the beginning of his prophethood.

The Second Type: Miracles Related to Climate

This type of miracle includes the following:
1- The clouds' obedience to the Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), by the permission of Allah The Almighty. Once, when they were being formed, rain came forth and the clouds were then removed upon his supplication.

2- Allah The Exalted supported the Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), by the wind. He Says (what means): {O you who have believed, remember the favor of Allah upon you when armies came to [attack] you and We sent upon them a wind and armies [of angels] you did not see. And ever is Allah, of what you do, Seeing.} [Quran 33:9] This was As-Saba (an easterly wind) which Allah The Exalted sent upon the enemies during the Battle of Al-Ahzaab. It was narrated that the Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “I have been made victorious by As-Saba [an easterly wind] and the people of ‘Aad were destroyed by Ad-Daboor [a westerly wind].”[Muslim]

The Third Type: His Actions with Animals, Humans, Jinn and Beasts

This type of miracle has many patterns. Here we will mention some examples:

A- His Actions with Humans
1- ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib, may Allah be pleased with him, was once complaining about a pain in his eyes. The Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), therefore spat into them and supplicated to Allah The Almighty and they were healed,    and it was as if he had never experienced pain before in them. [Al-Bukhari]
2- The leg of ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Ateek, may Allah be pleased with him, broke. The Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), wiped it and it was cured as if it had never been broken. [Al-Bukhari]
3- On the Day of Khaybar, Salamah ibn Al-’Akwa‘, may Allah be pleased with him, was injured in his leg after being struck. The Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), breathed on it thrice. Salamah, may Allah be pleased with him, therefore, never felt any pain in it thereafter. [Abu Daawood]

B- His Actions with the Jinn and Devils
1- The Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), would expel  the Jinn from a person simply by addressing him, saying: “Get out, O enemy of Allah. I am the Messenger of Allah.” [Ahmad]
2- He expelled a devil from the chest of ‘Uthmaan ibn ’Abi Al-‘Aas, may Allah be pleased with him. He hit ‘Uthmaan's chest thrice, spat into his mouth, and said: “Get out, O enemyof Allah.” He did so thrice. The devil did not     approach ‘Uthmaan, may Allah be pleased with him, after that. [Ibn Maajah]

C- His Actions with Beasts
This frequently happened to the Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ). Once, a camel came and prostrated itself to the Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ). Upon seeing this, the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, said, “O Messenger of Allah! The beasts and trees prostrate to you; we are worthy of prostrating to you.” The Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “Worship your Lord and treat your brother kindly. Had I ordered anyone to prostrate to any other creature, I would have commanded the woman to prostrate for her husband.”[Ahmad]

The Fourth Type: His Effect on Trees, Fruit and Wood

A- His effect on trees:
1- A Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), while he was on a journey. The Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), called him to Islam. The Bedouin said, “Who will testify to what you say?” The Messenger of Allah,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “That tree [pointing to a desert tree.]”He called it over  and it was on the side of a valley. Thereupon, it came, cutting its way through the ground until it stood before him.      The Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), asked it to testify     thrice, which it did, and then returned to its original place. ` [Ad-Daarimi]
2- Once, while he was on a journey, the Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), wanted to answer the call of nature. He found nothing that he could hide behind. He took hold of a tree's branch and said: “Be under my control, by the permission of Allah.” Thereupon, it came under his control like a reined camel. He took it until he came to a second tree and took hold of a branch thereof and said the same thing. Then he commanded them to join together and they obeyed him. Having relieved himself, the two trees separated and each one of them stood at its original place. [Muslim]

B- His effect on fruit
A Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), and asked, “How do I know that you are a prophet?” He  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “If I called this bunch of dates off this palm-tree, would you    testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?” The Messenger of Allah,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), called it and it descended from the palm-tree until it came to him. Then the Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), ordered it to    return to its place and it did. Thereupon, the Bedouin embraced Islam.  [At-Tirmithi, Al-Haakim and Ahmad]

C- His effect on wood
In Madeenah, the Messenger of Allah  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), would deliver the Friday Khutbah while leaning against the trunk of a palm-tree. When he had the pulpit made, he began to use it instead. The tree trunk therefore started crying like a child (and mooing like a cow, out of sadness as it missed the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu‘alayhi wa sallam). The Messenger of Allah,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), went to it, embraced it and started stroking it until it stopped crying. [Al-Bukhari]

The Fifth Type: His Effect on Mountains and Stones and Their Being Subjected to Him

A- His effect on mountains
Once the Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), ascended    the mountain of Uhud and Abu Bakr, ‘Umar and ‘Uthmaan, may Allah be pleased with them, were accompanying him. The mountain trembled beneath them. The Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), hit it with his foot, and said:  “Steady Uhud, for upon you there is a Prophet, a Siddeeq [the title of Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, which means: the steadfast affirmer of  truth] and two martyrs [i.e. ‘Umar and ‘Uthmaan,  may  Allah be pleased with them].” [Al-Bukhari]

B- His effect on stones
The Messenger of Allah,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “Indeed, I know a stone in Makkah which would greet me before my Bi‘thah [i.e. prophethood]. I [still] remember [its place until] now.” [Muslim]

C- His effect on dust
During the Battle of Hunayn, the fighting grew fierce and the Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), dismounted his mule, took a handful of dust from the ground, threw it at the enemy's faces and said: “May these faces be deformed.” There was  no one among the enemy whose eyes were not filled with the dust from this handful. Allah The Exalted defeated them, and the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, distributed the booties among the Muslims. [Muslim]
