The expertise in cradle making has lasted for many centuries and just as in Erbil, it continues primarily
in Kerkuk and other regions of Iraq.  For those in the waiting of a baby in either Erbil or Kerkuk or in fact other areas of Iraq, the most popular outlet  is a cradle shop which has a special place in every city.
Cradles for children which is an important sector in wooden arts, has been produced for hundreds of years in Erbil by masters who have been trained from a very young age.  This occupation which continues in the Grand Bazaar, which is located at the city center in Erbil, has outlasted years and technology.  In the Grand Bazaar which is located in the center of Erbil or as known by the local folk in Erbil as 'Kayseri Bazaar', there is a special section that has been allocated to cradle makers within the carpentery section.
Despite the fact that there have been more than 10 shopping malls opened in Erbil in recent years, the majority of citizens still prefer the old cradles.  The reason being is that they are more sturdy and more healthy.  Master Salih, who has inherited the profession from his father and has been continuing it at the Kayseri Bazaar in Erbil for nearly 30 years, says he is happy that the interest for child cradles made by traditional methods is still continuing.
