Israel has accepted an offer by the Palestinian Authority to send four firefighting teams to help combat the blazes across the country, a senior official said on Thursday.
The official said that the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories is overseeing the cooperation between the Palestinian and the Israeli fire crews.
At least 130 have been injured in the fires, mostly from smoke inhalation. None were considered in serious or life-threatening condition.
Russia, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Croatia and Cyprus agreed earlier on Thursday to send a total of 10 airplanes to Israel to help battle the blaze.
The US will also be sending a Boeing 747 "Supertanker," a massive firefighting plane, help handle the wave of fires. The Supertanker was also brought to Israel in 2010 to fight the massive fire raging in the Carmel region.
War of words
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier on Thursday said that “every fire that was the result of arson or incitement to arson is terror in every way and we’ll treat it as such," adding that "anyone who tries to burn parts of the State of Israel will be severely punished.”
So far, more than 75,000 people have been evacuated from Haifa while other outbreaks have been reportedly contained.
Israeli Defence Force personnel were mobilised to help firefighters combat the fires and aid the evacuation process.
